A microscopic organism lives on human facial skin, often unnoticed: Demodex folliculorum.
This mite inhabits pores and hair follicles, especially in oil-rich areas such as the nose, cheeks, eyelashes, and eyebrows.
It feeds on sebum and dead skin cells, forming part of the skin’s natural microbiota.
In most adults, it exists without causing issues, as its population remains balanced.
Only in certain cases, when overpopulated, it may be linked to skin conditions like Rosacea.
It is another example of the microorganisms that coexist constantly with the human body.
